Welcome to Italy, Aria! We're Latâche and Olivia, two furry sisters living in the province of Treviso with our hoomans. We'd post an introductory photo but we don't have opposable thumbs so we're not sure how. We're really happy that you're enjoying italian life. If you travel to Veneto we'd love to share some cornettos :-)
Ciao! My mom wants to go to Treviso, but she leaves me at home when she travels. I’m happier there. But thank you for the thought, and let us know if you’re down our way!
lucky aria. i remember those days. to and fro germany, sf, dc. last leg was a bus in portland maine only to be told it was illegal to bring dog. driver relented after my meltdown and said: if ea passenger agrees you can bring Dammit on. seat to seat i went, crying all the way. sat in the back of the bus, Dammit on the lap, to bath maine.
That must have been grueling. And thank heavens no one said no to Dammit—what a disaster that would have been! Aria's flight was a one-time thing, so yes, she's lucky!
Oh, Aria - you have my heart (and I think my dog Shea loves you, too). Your words helped me with my planning for my big move. Shea is now 13 years old and I am so worried about her age and the move to Italy or Spain. She gets echocardiograms too and is on heart meds. But, I would not even consider moving without her! She is 27 pounds and must go in the cargo hold. I think it will be harder on me than on Shea. Cheers to a wonderful dog's life in Italy.
Aria says thank you and wants to know if Shea likes playing Frisbee (Aria’s favorite). And we both wish you a successful move. I hope Shea gets a clean bill of health and the go-ahead from your vet when the time comes.
Thanks so much for a great article. We have two small dogs, 20 and 17 lbs. JRT’s and they are one of our biggest stumbling blocks to moving to Italy, although we haven’t decided yet. This article was very informative.
I’m glad Aria could help you out with some info! I don’t think you’d have a problem flying with them, if the time comes, but now you know what questions to ask (hopefully).
Hi Aria! My name is Shiya and me and my brother Baxter are hoping to move to the Abruzzo region (someplace called Casalanguida) in February. My mom seems a little distressed - something about not be able to find a plane that will take a dog of my size - i consider myself a delicate 110 pounds, i mean - for my breed - that's pretty delicate! Not sure what exactly a plane is - i'm assuming it is that big dark scary place and apparently they are size discriminatory as well. After reading your article, i'm not so sure i want her to find one, but then again, if she goes, i don't want to be left behind so i guess i will support her search! She keeps telling us that it will be worth it when we get to our new house in the country.....we'll see......Thanks for making her smile though!
Hi Shiya, it was scary but I never ever have to do it again, and it was worth it to stay with my mom. I hope you can find a plane big enough--what kind of dog are you? Your mom could also check into pet transport services, which are expensive but maybe could help out. We’ve never been to Abruzzo but we hear it’s a great place to explore. Let us know how it works out for you and Baxter!
Well, Aria, we finally made it!! It took almost 4 days but we are finally here and it's pretty cool! (Actually, compared to Phoenix - it's a little cold (from Baxter, the short haired dog)) We are loving the huge back yard and the friendly neighbors! PS we are sending all sorts of positive thoughts and dog kisses your way - we hear you might be going through some rough times.
Benvenuti in Italia! Aria says she’s glad you made it, and she wishes she had a big yard too! Thanks for letting us know--and for the well wishes--and have fun settling in!
I'm a Great Pyrenees currently living in this outdoor oven called Phoenix. Apparently things will be cooler over there!!! I guess she is looking at someone to help get us over there (she says we are "worth it" <3 ...)
No- very sad. But a medium sitting in a waiting room picked it up- told me (2 yrs later) “ Ping is with your daughter” giving closure- we then adopted a rescue mom cat and her newborn kitten.
When our cat Ping went missing, (Laura’s cat actually)years after she passed away, it was traumatic for me. That may be a future story-since such humanity happened.

Shea is not much for frisbee but she absolutely loves other doggies. Maybe one day, Shea and Aria will hang out together and munch on cornetti.

Nice. I didn't know about the processionaria. Yikes.
Yikes is right. I was horrified when I found out about them (and still am). Fortunately, we haven't come across any.
Hi Aria! I really enjoyed your writing. I think there’s a Pulitzer in your future!
Mark and I love you very much and we’re so happy that you decided to live in Perugia. 💕
Aria demands proof of your love (i.e., treats). But she loves you back!

❤️❤️❤️ Hi Aria! Thanks for telling me about the poisonous caterpillars. Mazie and I hope we get to meet you one day. 😍❤️
We hope so too! Hope there are no pine trees around your house. 🤞🏻

Gives me the shivers!
I stopped reading after two very strange comments about cats were made.
I have cats, and I was just fine w the cat comments from her. its how a dog might feel!
I love cats too! Aurora died a few years ago, and I really miss her (and having a cat in general).
When our cat Ping went missing, (Laura’s cat actually)years after she passed away, it was traumatic for me. That may be a future story-since such humanity happened.
Oh, I can imagine. Her loss linked to Laura’s must have brought up a lot for you. Was Ping found?
By a dog.
Love this! shared it with a dog mommy!
Thank you!
