That photo near the US Embassy is gorgeous-- amazing colors. Also loved your comment about understanding Italian better outside of the town where you live. I'm the same in Marche--- I have neighbors whose combination of dialect and accent I've never figured out after 20 years. It's so much easier as I get closer to Rome-- suddenly everything starts to sound like something I recognize!

Thanks, photos are all about the light! Re: the language, I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! As a follow-up, I had no trouble understanding anyone on my recent trip to Campania and southern Lazio (except on the phone with a 90-something distant relative who lives in Switzerland 😂). And I talked to a ton of people of all ages. Sigh.

I feel really bad for the people of Florence

It’s still a glorious city. But yeah.

Great photos, Cheryl! I love the first one of the Arno. Beautiful landscape shot!

Though it's not my favorite city, I do love Florence for the art (well, I pretty much love everywhere I've been in Italy with few exceptions.) My husband and I were there in early December 2022 on a stopover between Puglia (which I loved) and Lombardia ( where we live). We were not ready for the masses of people in early December. We were shocked! Oceans of tourists everywhere. We ended up cutting short our visit.

Thanks again!

P.s. definitely Carson!😁

Carson is winning! Yeah, there's no off-season in Florence anymore, unfortunately. The whole historic center is a museum now. It's such a shame. I used to love it there in deep winter when it was empty.
