Well. I'm truly speechless at the incredible display of idiocy you have documented here. As my mother would say, "Stupid is forever."

All of these shenanigans make me very sad that people don’t know how to treat these precious artifacts…..

They need to fine them and fine them a lot…

Cheryl A. Ossola's avatar

They should ban them from whatever city (if not all of Italy) for a period appropriate to the crime!

Jeez, this amount of stupidity and arrogance is depressing. These fuckwits need to be heavily fined and banned from re-entry, for life!

It’s sooooo depressing. And I totally agree; someone needs to put us in charge!

I think I'd pay to see someone smack these assholes 'upside' the head, as they say in the south 😆

Forbidden seems to be an optional word these days and I don't know why.

It's almost like when something is forbidden people want to do it more. I'm a schoolteacher and this is seen on a daily basis. Unbelievable that adults have such disrespect.

I’m not sure which is worse, disrespect (infuriating) or ignorance (sad). How disheartening that you see it so often in the classroom; that’s got to be tough.

Unbelievable behaviour. What is wrong with these people?

It is sad and I hope these people actually paid the fines. What shocked me about 10 years ago when I was on Sicily... not only was there grafitti on those old temples but there was tons of garbage, plastic soda bottles, etc. Outrageous!

Yes, tons of disrespect, and keeping up with the damage/trashing is probably more than Italy can handle. I'll never understand why people behave this way.

It is impressive, I´ll say. And sad. Yes Virginia, the world is full of stupid people.

Shenanigans is too nice a word. These idioti should be fined and thrown in jail if you ask me. Then deported and exiled after paying the fine. Ciao stupidissimo!

It boggles the mind that these looser twits can be on the loose the way they are. You can´t imagine that they have the intelligence to get out of their own way, much less to get out of their country and travel.

They are living insults to stupid people! (Sorry, got off on a rant there.)

I saw the gondola capsizing video right after it happened. What a pack of idiots! Instant karma if you ask me! (Condolences to the gondolier. They should have had to pay him double.)

And I guess the award for worst behaved overall goes to the Germans and Americans. (As well as the aforementioned Asians in Venice!) Stupid is as stupid does to quote Forrest Gump.

A classic example of why I pretended to be Canadian when we first moved to Portugal. Yup, still embarrassed to be American I´m afraid.

One of the reasons we left Porto for Aveiro; it has become chaotic tourist season all the time anymore. You can´t really blame the locals for having anti-foreigner sentiments when their cities are overrun with these clueless miscreants. It is a shame.

I support your rant! I do wonder if the gondolier was compensated in any way for his loss of time and everything else. I'm really sorry to hear that Porto is that touristy, though I do hope to join their ranks someday. I wish there was a solution to overtourism. We'll see if Venice's fee for day trippers has any impact.

Porto is still a gem of a city. But the vibe is not as chill as it was when we first arrived.

It was a gift to be here during Covid! (Sorry to say) Then it was a dream to tour Porto.

Still worth a visit. Off-season when the new metro line is finished maybe!

With drones, is there an Italian equivalent of an FAA license requirement, like here in the US? (Yes, this is a thing. I learned about it from a conscientious drone flyer on my local river)

I think there might be for extended use. There may be temporary permits for visitors. But I’m just guessing.

OMG Cheryl, this is the BEST write-up on this topic! I have been posting on my FB page when this ridiculousness happens in Firenze, and elsewhere, and my followers are always appalled. But apparently there are a lot of selfie-starved imbecili out there with cavolfiore for brains. ARGH!
